Yasiin Bey (FKA Mos Def), one of hip hop culture’s most significant musicians, will visit Carriageworks for a two-night examination of his back catalogue and artistic influences as part of the Vivid Music program on Wednesday, June 12 and Thursday, June 13.
On night two, Bey will commemorate the anniversary of his critically praised breakthrough album The Ecstatic with a rare study of one of contemporary culture’s most nuanced and singular voices. The album’s eclectic blending of elements of hip-hop, jazz, soul, and world music, as well as themes of politics and personal adversity, has been hailed as a return to form. The production is diversified, drawing inspiration from global influences.
Often regarded as one of the best rappers of all time, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the hip hop legend perform the heavily lyrical and unashamedly Black music that defined his career.
