Returning to Vivid LIVE following their massive birthday event in 2022, tastemakers Astral People bring us the musical riches of the Spice Trail, featuring a buzzy trio of cutting-edge artists on the rise around the world. Sid Sriram, an Indian R&B and playback music sensation, singer and rapper Priya Ragu, and Punjabi polymath Raf-Saperra are set to give the Concert Hall a taste of the South Asian diaspora in all its unique beauty. In addition, Kerfew party starters Munasib and Rakish will be on hand to offer some unusual taste.

Astral People: Spice Trail is a new sampling plate for your palates, featuring music from around the diaspora and musicians who have been exploring their identities by tapping into the sounds of their forefathers. The series will be an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of sounds and cultures from Bangladesh to Pakistan to Egypt, the Middle East, and everywhere in between, as well as the energy and excitement of the diasporic experience in the West.

Astral People

Since its inception in 2011, Astral People has emerged as one of Australia’s most inventive artist management and worldwide touring businesses. Their portfolio of local musicians includes Cosmo’s Midnight, Winston Surfshirt, and Wave Racer. They’ve also toured in-demand international bands like Fred again, 100 gecs, Stormzy, Arlo Parks, and John Talabot. The label has also created unique experiences like Splendour in the Grass, Strawberry Fields, and Vivid LIVE, where they have been a festival favourite for the past decade.

Sid Sriram

Sid Sriram, a playback superstar who has appeared in over 200 films, was born in India and raised in California. His hybrid pop sound stems from his unique transcultural upbringing. Sriram is well recognized for his soulful soundtrack performances, which incorporate Indian Carnatic music, R&B, jazz, new age pop, and alternative hypno-rock.

Priya Ragu

Priya Ragu, a multi-talented Tamil-Swiss singer and rapper, rose to international prominence with her particular style of “raguwavy,” a sonic tapestry that combines R&B, soul, and dynamic electro beats with traditional Tamil folk from her ancestry. Her popular mixtape Damshestamil (2021) and first album Santhosam (2023) were praised for their creativity and cutting-edge sound.

Raf-Saperra

Raf-Saperra, a South London native who blends traditional Punjabi folk vocals with UK garage, drill, and Afrobeat, has emerged as one of his country’s most talked-about exports since his 2020 debut, “Glassy Riddim”. Saperra’s bhangra beats, led by his garage anthem “N.L.S. (Nach Le Soniye)” (2022) and last year’s knockout mixtape debut Ruff Around the Edges, have been rocking everywhere from Berghain to Glastonbury.
