Don’t pass up this chance to hear directly from two of Australian football’s most significant and inspirational people. Say my name, please. Say Hibaq Farah, Niamh Ní Hoireabhaird, Ranjana Srivastava, and thousands of other Australians whose names are mispronounced, truncated, anglicized, or substituted, not so far.

Many people in Australia may face particular, occasionally upsetting obstacles because of their name when navigating education, the job, and daily living. This panel discussion and storytelling session explore how we view and accept names that are unjustly labeled as “foreign,” “tricky,” or “unfamiliar.”y in Vivid Sydney.

Hear Drs. Elaine Laforteza, Sunil Badami, Kumi de Silva, and Mariko Smith talk about their personal experiences and the historical, cultural, and familial connections behind their names under the moderator Jan Fran. Say My Name will also offer guidance and resources on how we may correct mispronunciations and cooperate to create a society that is more inclusive and kind.

Our identities are fundamentally shaped by our names. They have strong historical, familial, cultural, and personal ties. They also help us understand our identity and position in the world. Come celebrate the variety of names and the tales they tell about each of us as people and as a culture.
