Emma Donovan, who recently released her album “Til My Song Is Done,” delivers her hypnotic blend of reggae, gospel, soul, and country to Carriageworks as part of the Vivid Music program on Saturday, June 15.
Emma’s diverse and soulful tone will captivate music fans as she delivers a passionate and genuine performance that honors her deep musical heritage and family tradition.
Emma, an Aboriginal Australian singer-songwriter, routinely sings songs in the Gumbaynggirr and Noongar traditional languages and tells stories that help her audience understand their country and community.
Emma initially debuted on stage with her famous family band, The Donovans, where she sang church songs alongside her mother Agnes, five uncles, and maternal grandparents Micko and Aileen. She went on to establish herself as a musical force with her award-winning work with the rhythm group The Putbacks and the Black Arm Band project.
Emma has toured and recorded with some of Australia’s top musicians, including Paul Kelly, The Teskey Brothers, Briggs, Dan Sultan, Spinifex Gum, the late Uncle Archie Roach, and Aunty Ruby Hunter.
