Few voices have defined the modern avant garde pop landscape as the Venezuelan-born, Barcelona-based singer, producer, and conceptual artist. Arca’s technique was unusual enough to be readily recognized when she produced music for superstars such as Björk, Kanye West, FKA Twigs, and Frank Ocean, but she has since paved her own road with a succession of singular, genre-bending solo albums. The wait is finally over, as Arca travels to Australia for a fever dream multidisciplinary performance in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall for Vivid LIVE.
With her studio albums Xen (2014), Mutant (2015), and Arca (2017), the pioneering artist made waves with an experimental sound that embraced electronic fluidity and explored gender identity, particularly after coming out as non-binary in 2018. She once described her music as “a transmission broadcasted into this world from a speculative fictional universe.”
In 2020 and 2021, Arca launched an ambitious cycle of richly layered, outrageously extravagant electronic music on the albums Kick I through IIII, winning a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. In 2023, she opened for Beyoncé’s famous Renaissance tour and appeared in a video interlude during the performances.
