Lace is impractical, insubstantial, and full of holes, but it has been utilized to tell meaningful and personal stories throughout history.

In this exhibition, three NSW-based artists employ three different lace techniques to convey their personal experiences and offer contemporary expression to a traditional artform.

Jane Théau utilizes a sewing machine to produce life-size lace images for installations and dance performances.

Maggie Hensel-Brown makes highly detailed needle lace, portraying everyday life with a technique that has remained untouched since its inception in the sixteenth century.

Tina Fox challenges conventional notions about crocheted lace, one of the few crafts that cannot be automated, as she investigates the relationship between crochet and digital technology.
