Amy Loogatha Rayarriwarrtharrbayingathi Mingungurra was born on Bentinck Island, in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. Loogatha comes from a long line of artists who were influenced by and connected to their land and culture, including her aunty Sally Gabori and sister Netta Loogatha.

Bada Warrku | Late Afternoon Sun is the first of two solo shows given as part of the inaugural Cooee Art Leven Gallery Prize.The prize was awarded to two 2023 finalists in the famous Paddington Art Prize, which is sponsored and hosted by Cooee Art Leven.Amy Loogatha received the award for her magnificent painting Kabara – Saltpan, while Mignon Steele, a Wollongong-based artist, took second place.

This exhibition contextualizes the work and highlights common themes explored throughout the artist’s career and oeuvre, resulting in works of outstanding beauty and vitality. Amy Loogatha Rayarriwarrtharrbayingathi Mingungurra, 82, will be having her first solo show.
