Ousmane Sembène, one of history’s most significant filmmakers, will have his works exhibited in a magnificent retrospective series at the Sydney Film Festival in June.

Sembène, widely considered as “the father of African cinema” and the author of the first African-language feature film, ushered in a new era of African filmmaking. Sincere, motivating, and artistically magnificent, he documented Senegalese people’s daily lives while strongly criticizing his country’s colonial heritage.

Sembène had a major influence on modern filmmakers, including Martin Scorsese, and revolutionized the world of cinema forever. With these films infrequently broadcast and rarely streamed, this is your only chance to see his essential work.

Tickets and packages are on sale now. All films will be shown at the Art Gallery of NSW on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays during the Festival.

Purchase a Flexipass today and receive up to four tickets per session to films from Ousmane Sembène: A Revolutionary with a Camera! Your Flexipass allows you to reserve tickets to any of the 200+ films running at the Sydney Film Festival. The full schedule will be announced on May 8.
